Rivalry Turns Deadly: Two Killed in Ludhiana Wedding Firing

Ludhiana, December 1 — A wedding celebration at Bath Castle resort on Pakhowal Road turned tragic when rival groups exchanged gunfire, leaving two guests dead and one injured. Panic spread among attendees as nearly 20 rounds were fired inside the venue.

The deceased were identified as Neeru Chhabra, the groom’s maternal aunt, and Vasu Chopra, a neighbour of the family. Another guest sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

Police have arrested six accused in connection with the incident: Ankur, Jasvir Singh alias Jassa, Kulpreet Singh alias Rubal (president of Ludhiana Vegetable Market), Jatinder Kumar Dawar, Shubham Arora alias Shubham Mota, and Yuvraj Singh. Several others are under investigation.

Authorities said the clash stemmed from a long-standing rivalry between the groups, both of whom had been invited to the wedding of Varinder Kapoor. Weapons used in the firing have been seized, and security has been tightened in the area to prevent further escalation.

Senior police officers, including Commissioner Swapan Sharma, confirmed that a case has been registered under charges of murder, attempt to murder, rioting, and Arms Act violations. The groom and the marriage palace owner have also been booked for negligence in allowing armed individuals into the venue.

The incident has cast a shadow over the community, with residents demanding stronger measures to curb gun violence at public gatherings.
