The National Conference (NC) Working Committee convened in Srinagar to review recent political developments, with discussions dominated by the party’s defeat in Budgam, internal dissent, and challenges posed by what members described as “dual governance.”

Senior leader Ruhullah Mehdi voiced strong dissent over the party’s electoral strategy and decision-making processes, urging greater accountability and grassroots engagement. His intervention highlighted growing concerns within the cadre about the party’s performance and direction.

Committee members also deliberated on the impact of “dual governance” in Jammu and Kashmir, referring to overlapping administrative structures and political constraints that have complicated policy implementation and weakened institutional coherence. Leaders stressed the need for clarity and stronger coordination to address these hurdles.

The Budgam defeat was acknowledged as a setback, with members calling for introspection and corrective measures to rebuild confidence among voters. The meeting underscored the importance of strengthening organisational discipline and reconnecting with the public at the constituency level.

The NC leadership reaffirmed its commitment to addressing internal challenges while continuing to advocate for the restoration of democratic processes and safeguarding the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
