MUMBAI: The rupee fell by 18 paise to settle at 85.94 (provisional) against the US dollar on Wednesday, as the greenback strengthened against major global currencies amid lingering uncertainties surrounding the India-US trade agreement.
Forex traders noted that the decline was partially offset by renewed foreign fund inflows and easing global crude oil prices, which lent some support to the domestic currency.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened on a weak note at 86.02 and moved between 85.74 and 86.05 during the session before closing at 85.94, down 18 paise from its previous close.
