MUMBAI: The rupee strengthened by 10 paise to end at 85.82 (provisional) against the US dollar on Tuesday, supported by a weaker greenback in overseas markets and falling global crude oil prices.
However, the local currency’s gains were limited due to continued foreign fund outflows and uncertainty surrounding the outcome of ongoing India-US trade negotiations, according to forex traders.
A delegation from the Indian commerce ministry is currently in Washington for a fresh round of talks on the proposed Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA). The four-day discussions began on Monday and are scheduled to conclude on Thursday.
