New Delhi [India]: SRT Sports Management Pvt Ltd on Friday refuted reports suggesting that cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar is being considered for the position of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

A statement from the management read: “It has come to our attention that certain reports and rumours have been circulating regarding Mr. Sachin Tendulkar being considered, or nominated, for the position of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). We categorically state that no such development has taken place. We urge everyone to refrain from giving credence to unfounded speculations.”

The clarification comes after Roger Binny vacated the BCCI President post in July upon turning 70, as per the BCCI constitution, which mandates retirement for office bearers above that age. The BCCI is scheduled to hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) before the end of September, where the next presidential candidacy is expected to be discussed.

Following the news of Binny’s departure in June, vice-president Rajeev Shukla emerged as the frontrunner for the role. Sources indicated that Shukla, who will turn 66 next week, could initially take over as interim president and potentially contest for a full-term presidency in the upcoming AGM.

However, Shukla had previously dismissed such speculation as “useless talks”, emphasizing that an interim charge is merely procedural: “When one spot is about to get vacant, the person next in line gets the interim charge before the election. It is a procedural thing,” he told reporters.

Roger Binny was elected as the 36th BCCI President in October 2022, succeeding former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly after his three-year tenure. Binny was the sole candidate to file a nomination for the post.

During his tenure, India clinched two major white-ball titles: the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He also launched the Women’s Premier League (WPL), a franchise-based women’s cricket league modeled on the IPL.
