SRINAGAR, Dec 4: Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Lone today launched a sharp attack on the government over its reservation policy, accusing it of creating divisions and shirking responsibility. He said the administration was deliberately “passing on the buck” instead of addressing the concerns of the people.

Lone argued that the government could easily restore the earlier system of district and divisional recruitment through legislation, which would ensure fair distribution of jobs across regions. He added that such a move would promote inclusivity and raise the open merit share in Kashmir division to nearly 70 percent.

“The government is trying to create a wedge in Kashmiri ranks. Why is it not restoring the previous recruitment system? It is simply avoiding responsibility,” Lone remarked while addressing party workers.

He emphasised that restoring district and divisional recruitment would strengthen regional representation and provide equal opportunities to aspirants from different areas. Lone reiterated that the Peoples Conference will continue to oppose policies that undermine fairness in recruitment and employment.

The remarks come amid growing political debate over reservation policies in Jammu and Kashmir, with opposition parties demanding reforms to ensure transparency and regional balance in public sector jobs.
