Sakeena Itoo urges JKBOPEE to expand career-oriented opportunities for J&K students

SRINAGAR: Minister for Health, Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, today held a meeting with Prof. Minu Mahajan, Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (JKBOPEE), to discuss measures for strengthening professional education opportunities across the Union Territory.

The Minister reviewed the functioning of JKBOPEE and also took stock of activities at the Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Srinagar. She directed the Chairperson to explore the feasibility of increasing seats in the CRC’s special B.Ed. programme, citing the growing demand for trained special educators in both mainstream and specialized institutions.

Sakeena Itoo further asked JKBOPEE to establish a robust grievance redressal mechanism to better facilitate students and applicants. She commended the Board’s role in maintaining transparency and merit-based admissions and assured government support for expanding professional and technical education opportunities in J&K, in line with national standards.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to providing students with quality, diverse, and career-oriented educational avenues, the Minister emphasized the need for sustained initiatives to strengthen the professional education ecosystem.

Expressing gratitude to the Minister, the JKBOPEE Chairperson highlighted the recent addition of 290 MBBS seats for J&K students—a move that, she said, would significantly enhance medical education prospects and reinforce the Omar Abdullah-led government’s vision of making J&K a hub of academic excellence.
