BUDGAM: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo, today visited Ichgam, Budgam, to offer condolences to the family of a young student who tragically lost his life in an electrocution incident yesterday.
She was accompanied by MLA Chadoora, Ali Mohammad Dar; MLA Khan Sahib, Saif-u-din Bhat; Director School Education Kashmir; and other senior officers of the district administration.
The Minister met the bereaved family, expressed her heartfelt condolences, and assured them of the government’s full support during this difficult time. She emphasized that strict accountability would be ensured and swift action taken against those responsible for the negligence that led to the tragedy.
Earlier, the Minister visited the incident site to assess the circumstances firsthand. She later held a meeting at Dak Bungalow with Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Dr. Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat, and other senior officials to review the situation.
During the meeting, she issued firm instructions to conduct a transparent and time-bound inquiry, fix responsibility, and initiate legal action against those found guilty of negligence. She also directed the administration to urgently review and strengthen safety measures around schools and other public institutions to prevent such incidents in the future.
The Deputy Commissioner informed the Minister that an enquiry committee has already been formed to investigate the incident, identify lapses, and ensure accountability.
