Mohamed Salah netted a brace as Egypt cruised past Djibouti 3-0 on Wednesday to book their spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a game to spare in the qualifiers.
The Pharaohs took an early lead in Casablanca when Zizo’s precise cross was headed in by Ibrahim Adel. Salah then extended the advantage with a composed finish from a through ball before capping the win with a late volley, FIFA reported.
In other matches, Ghana edged closer to qualification after a dominant win in El Jadida, with Mohammed Salisu, Thomas Partey, Alexander Djiku, Jordan Ayew, and Kamaldeen Sulemana all getting on the scoresheet.
Elsewhere, Cabo Verde were held to a 3-3 draw by Libya but stayed atop their group, while Cameroon kept their qualification hopes alive. Angola, Comoros, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, and Sierra Leone, however, saw their World Cup dreams end.
With one round remaining, Egypt and Ghana will aim to strengthen their positions and finish the qualifiers on a high.
