Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan opened up about a major health scare during the premiere episode of Two Much With Kajol & Twinkle on Amazon Prime, giving fans a rare glimpse into his personal struggles.
Joining the show alongside close friend and former co-star Aamir Khan, Salman spoke candidly about life, work, and his battle with a serious neurological condition.
The actor revealed that he had been diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia, a disorder causing extreme facial pain that made everyday activities nearly impossible.
“You have to live with it. Many people go through bypass surgeries, heart conditions, and much more. But trigeminal neuralgia… that pain is unimaginable. You wouldn’t want your worst enemy to experience it. I suffered for seven-and-a-half years. The pain struck every 4–5 minutes, suddenly,” Salman shared.
He described how the condition made even simple tasks a struggle, saying he would take over an hour to eat breakfast. “For an omelette, I couldn’t chew it. I had to force myself and endure the pain just to finish a meal,” he added.
Salman also revealed taking around 750 mg of painkillers, initially thinking the pain was dental-related. “I was asked when the pain would go away, and I’d say it reduces a bit but comes back after a drink or two. That’s when they realized it was a nerve issue,” he explained.
Recalling a specific incident on the sets of his 2007 film Partner, he said, “Lara Dutta removed a strand of hair from my face, and I felt pain. I thought, ‘Wow, Lara, you’re electrifying!’ That’s when it started.”
He described trigeminal neuralgia as a “suicidal disease” due to the intensity of the pain. While his condition has improved, Salman admitted he still deals with other health concerns, including an aneurysm and arteriovenous malformation.
According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a chronic pain disorder involving sudden, severe facial pain. It affects the trigeminal nerve, which provides sensation and nerve signals to parts of the head and face.
