On-the-Spot Damage Assessment, Prompt Compensation Directed
JAMMU: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, today conducted an extensive tour of Block Maira Mandrian and Kathar to assess flood-related damages and review ongoing relief measures for affected families.
The Minister was accompanied by senior officials from the district administration, Revenue, FCS&CA, PWD, PHE, and Rural Development departments. During his visit, he inspected inundated localities, damaged houses, agricultural fields, and public infrastructure, while interacting with residents to understand their immediate needs.
Expressing solidarity with the flood-affected families, Sharma assured them of the Government’s full commitment to their speedy rehabilitation and restoration of normalcy. He directed the district administration to carry out on-the-spot damage assessments of houses, crops, and livestock to ensure timely and adequate compensation.
The Minister emphasized the need for uninterrupted supply of food grains, clean drinking water, electricity, and medical facilities. He instructed the Food & Civil Supplies Department to maintain smooth ration distribution under PDS and asked the Health Department to deploy mobile health units to vulnerable areas for immediate medical assistance.
Further, he directed the PWD and Rural Development departments to urgently restore damaged roads, culverts, and link paths to ensure village connectivity with main roads and facilitate quick transportation of relief materials.
Highlighting the importance of long-term solutions, the Minister stated that the Government is working on comprehensive flood management and mitigation strategies to minimize recurring losses during heavy rains.
Residents raised concerns regarding drainage systems, embankments, and road safety. Addressing them, Satish Sharma said, “This is a difficult time for our people, but no family will be left unattended. The Government is taking all necessary steps to provide relief, restore essential services, and help affected households rebuild their lives.”
He reaffirmed that the Government will remain on high alert until full normalcy is restored and that he will personally continue monitoring the progress of relief and rehabilitation efforts in the constituency.
