Satish Sharma lays foundation stone for upgradation of Playfield at Dooru Verinag
ANANTNAG: In a significant move towards strengthening sports infrastructure in South Kashmir, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, IT, and Transport, Satish Sharma today laid the foundation stone for the upgradation of the Playfield at Dooru Verinag.
The ceremony witnessed the presence of MLA Dooru G. A. Mir, Secretary J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gul, senior officers from the Youth Services and Sports Department, local representatives, and a large gathering of students, youth, and sports enthusiasts.
Speaking on the occasion, Satish Sharma reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to transforming Jammu and Kashmir into a vibrant hub of sports excellence by developing modern infrastructure at the grassroots level. He emphasized that sports not only promote physical fitness, discipline, and teamwork but also empower youth to lead purposeful and productive lives.
“The Government’s vision is to ensure that every district and block has access to quality sports facilities, enabling our young athletes to train, compete, and excel at the state, national, and international levels,” he said. Sharma added that the upgraded playfield at Verinag would serve as a cornerstone for nurturing young talent and boosting sports participation across the region.
In his remarks, MLA Dooru G. A. Mir expressed gratitude to the Minister for prioritizing the aspirations of local youth, stating that the upgraded facility would strengthen the sports culture in the area and contribute to the overall social and physical development of the younger generation.
The upgraded playfield will include modern turfing, boundary fencing, spectator stands, changing rooms, and other essential amenities, making it suitable for hosting inter-school, inter-district, and regional-level tournaments. Once completed, it is expected to emerge as a vibrant centre for sporting excellence and youth engagement in the Verinag area.
