Satish Sharma assures full rehabilitation of flood-hit families in Jammu
JAMMU: To strengthen flood preparedness and relief efforts in Jammu district, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, IT, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, on Thursday undertook an extensive tour of several flood-prone and affected villages, including Naibasti Naraina Pallanwala, Dhar Channi, Palatan, Gigrail, Datyal, and Gajrail.
The Minister inspected water levels, reviewed the administrative response, and interacted with locals to assess their concerns. He directed officials to ensure timely support to at-risk communities, stressing that citizens’ safety and well-being must remain the foremost priority.
Appreciating the Indian Army for their swift rescue efforts, Sharma also lauded the district administration, frontline workers, and volunteers for their dedication during the crisis.
“The safety and welfare of our people remain paramount. The government, in coordination with the Indian Army and civil administration, is committed to providing relief, restoring essential services, and ensuring complete rehabilitation of all affected families. No one will be left behind,” Sharma affirmed.
He instructed the Food and Civil Supplies Department to maintain uninterrupted ration supply, safe drinking water, and fuel at relief centres, while also calling for urgent damage assessments to facilitate timely compensation. Restoration of road connectivity, power, and water in affected areas was also directed on priority.
The Minister urged residents of vulnerable areas to remain alert, follow safety advisories, and cooperate with authorities. He reiterated the government’s resolve to not only rehabilitate all affected families but also implement long-term flood prevention measures across the region.
Meanwhile, coordinated efforts of the administration led to the safe evacuation of residents from villages such as Dhar Channi, Palatan, and Indri Patan. Relief camps have been set up with provisions of food, clean water, LPG, and other essentials, while community kitchens continue to operate round-the-clock to ensure no family faces scarcity.
