Minister Satish Sharma Pays Surprise Visit to Tawanai Ghar Bemina, Pushes for Solar Energy Expansion

SRINAGAR: To give a fresh push to the Government’s renewable energy drive, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, IT, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, on Friday conducted a surprise inspection of Tawanai Ghar at Bemina and reviewed its functioning.

The Minister directed officials of the Science & Technology Department to focus on innovative and practical solar energy solutions that can be implemented across Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that Mission Solar Energy, envisioned by the Chief Minister, demands dedicated efforts from all stakeholders to achieve self-reliance in the renewable sector.

“The Government is determined to make J&K a model state in renewable energy adoption. Solar energy holds immense potential here, and it must be harnessed in a scientific, result-oriented manner,” Sharma said.

He instructed the department to draft detailed proposals and roadmaps for scaling up solar installations in government buildings, public institutions, and utilities. He also called for incentives to promote household-level adoption, greater collaboration with research bodies and private players, and timely completion of ongoing projects under government schemes.

Taking feedback from employees, Sharma assured that their genuine demands would be addressed on priority and directed senior officers to ensure a supportive work environment. He noted that employee welfare is directly linked to efficiency and productivity.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to sustainable growth, the Minister said that increased reliance on solar and other renewables will not only reduce dependence on conventional energy but also safeguard J&K’s fragile ecology.

He urged officials to work with renewed zeal and accountability to realize the Chief Minister’s vision of transforming J&K into a clean energy hub.

The visit was attended by CEO JAKEDA, P.R. Dhar, and senior officers of the Science & Technology Department.
