Satish Sharma Reviews Stock of Essential Supplies Across J&K
JAMMU: In a decisive step to ensure uninterrupted access to essential commodities, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), IT, Transport, Youth Services, and Sports, Satish Sharma, today directed measures to strengthen the supply chain of LPG cylinders, petrol, and diesel across Jammu and Kashmir.
The directions came during a review meeting with officers from FCS&CA, Legal Metrology, and representatives of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), where the Minister assessed the stock position of essential supplies.
Highlighting the critical need for seamless service delivery in view of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) recent advisory warning of potential weather disruptions, Minister Sharma instructed the enhancement of the supply and distribution network. He emphasized mandatory doorstep delivery of LPG cylinders to eliminate inconvenience caused by collection from distribution points and directed reimbursement of delivery charges.
He further directed the FCS&CA Department and OMCs to maintain adequate stocks of LPG cylinders, petrol, and diesel to prevent shortages, with daily monitoring mechanisms in place.
To streamline logistics and address supply chain bottlenecks, Minister Sharma called for strengthened coordination between the department, OMCs, and transport authorities. He also directed the establishment of a dedicated 24/7 Control and Monitoring Cell at the Heads of Departments (HoDs) and State Logistics Coordinator (SLC) levels to address grievances arising from adverse weather conditions and ensure prompt resolution.
Emphasizing urgency, the Minister stated, “With the IMD warning of possible disruptions due to adverse weather, ensuring buffer stocks and reliable delivery of essential fuels is non-negotiable. Any lapse in compliance will result in strict action against defaulters, including Oil Marketing Companies and responsible officials.”
He also instructed officers to begin immediate field inspections to enforce compliance and urged consumers to report any issues through the FCS&CA helpline or the department’s online portal.
