Satish Sharma inspects Pampore sports grounds, announces major upgrades including floodlights and modern facilities

Also interacts with local youth, sportspersons, and sports body representatives

SRINAGAR: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, and Youth Services & Sports, Satish Sharma, today conducted an extensive visit to the Tanchabagh and Kadalbal sports grounds in Pampore to assess the existing sports infrastructure and review requirements for their upgradation.

During the visit, the Minister interacted with local youth, sportspersons, and representatives of sports bodies who apprised him of issues related to infrastructure, equipment availability, and the need for regular sporting events in the area.

Responding to their concerns, Satish Sharma announced that both Tanchabagh and Kadalbal grounds will soon be equipped with floodlights to facilitate day and night matches. He also directed for the construction of modern washrooms, changing rooms, and players’ rest areas, assuring that these facilities would be developed in a time-bound manner with full support from the Youth Services & Sports Department.

Reaffirming the Government’s commitment to strengthen sports infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir, the Minister said that special focus is being given to developing playgrounds at the grassroots level to provide a platform for young talent to thrive.

He highlighted that sports play a vital role in promoting fitness, discipline, teamwork, and leadership among youth, and contribute significantly to fostering social harmony and community engagement.

The Minister was accompanied by MLA Pampore, Justice (Retd) Hasnain Masoodi, along with senior officers from the District Administration and the Department of Youth Services and Sports, who briefed him on the status of existing infrastructure and ongoing projects.

Later, the Minister attended the final match of a local cricket tournament at Pampore Ground, where he commended the players for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship. He distributed prizes among the winning and runner-up teams and lauded the organizers for promoting sports culture among the youth.

Satish Sharma reiterated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the Government is implementing a comprehensive roadmap to upgrade sports infrastructure, nurture young talent, and ensure that every district is equipped with adequate training and competition facilities.
