Security Forces Engage in Armed Clash with Militants in Rajouri

Jammu: An encounter erupted on Tuesday evening between terrorists and a police team in a remote area of Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir, a senior police officer said.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu, Bhim Sen Tuti, stated that a joint search operation is underway following the encounter in Beeranthub, Kandi.

“Exchange of fire occurred between terrorists and the Special Operations Group (SOG) team in Beeranthub, Police Station Kandi, Rajouri. Joint forces comprising the Police, Army, and CRPF have reached the spot and cordoned off the area,” the IGP said.

Officials confirmed that there were no casualties reported during the brief firing in Dheri Khatuni forest around 7:20 pm. The firing began when the SOG initiated a search operation based on information about the movement of suspected individuals.

The area remains under strict cordon as the search operation continues, officials added.

Meanwhile, security forces also launched a cordon and search operation in the Dharni Top area of Basantgarh in Udhampur district after locals reported sightings of three suspected terrorists, officials said.
