Srinagar: A senior BSF officer on Saturday warned that terrorists were positioned at launch pads along the Line of Control (LoC), poised to infiltrate the Kashmir Valley, but said security forces remain vigilant and ready to thwart any attempts.

Speaking to reporters, Inspector General (IG) of BSF Kashmir Frontier, Ashok Yadav, noted that infiltration attempts typically rise before the onset of winter.

“There are always efforts to infiltrate before snowfall. With about two months remaining, the chances of infiltration persist until November, as militants know their opportunities will be limited for the next six months. They try, but given the alertness of our forces, infiltration is extremely difficult,” Yadav said.

He confirmed that terrorists were stationed at launch pads across the LoC, particularly opposite the Bandipora and Kupwara sectors, waiting for an opportunity to cross into the valley.

“Security along the LoC is extremely tight. Militants sometimes wait for bad weather to make a move. Attempts continue, but we are fully prepared for any eventuality,” he added.

Yadav highlighted the role of both the Army and BSF, emphasizing the effectiveness of high-tech surveillance in securing the border.

“Together with the Army, we are maintaining strong dominance along the LoC. So far this year, two infiltration attempts have been foiled. It is extremely difficult to penetrate our area of responsibility due to the vigilance, modern tactics, and advanced surveillance equipment we employ,” he said.
