Jammu: With Navratri approaching, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday reviewed security arrangements at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi district.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi, Paramvir Singh, chaired a security review meeting at Katra, the base camp for pilgrims. The meeting was attended by senior officers from the Army, CRPF, and intelligence agencies.

Navratri will be observed from September 22 to October 1, and the shrine board anticipates a large influx of devotees from across the country.

The SSP stressed that the top priority of all deployed forces is to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for pilgrims throughout the festival. He called for foolproof security along the entire track up to the Bhawan and directed intensive frisking and thorough checking to prevent any disruption by anti-social or anti-national elements.

According to a police spokesperson, special focus was placed on preventing impersonation cases, with strict ID verification and enhanced surveillance measures.

The SSP also instructed regular verification and census of migrants in and around Katra, priority checks of pony porters and workers, and routine inspections of hotels and guest houses to verify visitors’ credentials. Police stations were told to revisit and update lists of Over Ground Workers.

Additionally, close monitoring of social media platforms was ordered to identify and counter emerging patterns of radicalisation.
