JAMMU: As part of ongoing field reviews for the Amarnath Yatra, a senior police officer on Tuesday visited the Ram Temple in the Purani Mandi area—a key location offering food and shelter to sadhus and sadhvis en route to the holy cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas, officials said.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti, conducted the visit to inspect the temple premises, assess security deployment, and review access control measures in and around the complex, they said.
During the visit, the IGP issued on-the-spot instructions to strengthen security, especially during peak hours of pilgrim movement, while also emphasizing the importance of maintaining a safe yet welcoming environment for devotees.
He also reviewed the arrangements for the langar (community kitchen), interacted with volunteers and organizers, and commended their dedicated efforts in ensuring smooth operations.
In a gesture that resonated with pilgrims, the IGP joined the langar service, helping distribute food and sharing a meal to personally assess the quality of service, a police spokesperson said.
His interaction with pilgrims fostered a sense of warmth and reassurance, underscoring the administration’s people-centric approach to the yatra.
Officials added that the IGP was briefed on security measures, traffic management plans, and logistical arrangements to ensure seamless support for pilgrims passing through the area.
