Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Monday reopened seven tourist destinations in the valley that had been closed following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
The move comes after directions from Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, following a meeting of the Unified Headquarters (UHQ) on Friday.
“After a thorough security review and discussions in today’s UHQ meeting, I have ordered the reopening of more tourist spots in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions, which were temporarily closed as a precautionary measure,” Sinha said in a post on X on Friday.
In the aftermath of the terror attack at Baisaran in Pahalgam, where heavily armed terrorists killed 26 people—mostly tourists—the administration had shut down nearly 50 tourist sites.
In the Kashmir division, the seven reopened spots include Aru Valley, Rafting Point Yanner, Akkad Park, Padshahi Park, and Kaman Post. In the Jammu division, five sites have been reopened, including Dagan Top in Ramban, Dhaggar in Kathua, and Shiv Cave in Salal, Reasi.
Earlier in June, the administration had reopened 16 tourist destinations, including certain areas of Pahalgam.
