Severe cold grips Kashmir, Shopian freezes at –6.4°C

Srinagar, Dec 6: Kashmir continues to reel under severe cold conditions as temperatures dipped sharply across the Valley. Shopian district recorded the lowest at minus 6.4 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest place in the region.

According to the Meteorological Department, night temperatures fell below freezing in most districts, with Srinagar recording minus 3.2 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam minus 4.8 degrees Celsius, and Gulmarg minus 5.6 degrees Celsius. Officials said the cold wave is expected to persist, with further drop in temperatures likely in the coming days.

Residents reported frozen water pipes and slippery roads, while farmers expressed concern over the impact of the cold spell on orchards and winter crops. Authorities have advised people to take precautions against frost and ensure adequate heating arrangements.
