Mumbai: Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has sharply criticized Vijay Subramaniam, producer of the upcoming AI-generated film Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal.
The film, announced on Tuesday by Abundantia Entertainment and Collective Media Network’s Historyverse, is being promoted as India’s first “Made-in-AI” theatrical release.
Taking to Instagram, Kashyap accused Subramaniam—who also heads a talent agency representing writers, directors, and actors—of prioritizing profits over creativity. He alleged that agencies are “only interested in making money” and argued that turning to AI demonstrates how little value is placed on artists.
“Congratulations @vijaysubramaniam84. Here is the man heading @lifeatcollectiveartistsnetwork, which represents artists, writers, and directors, now producing a film made by AI. So much for protecting the interests of creators,” Kashyap wrote.
The filmmaker went further, urging actors and creators to take a stand against the move. He said that anyone with “a spine” should question or even walk away from the agency, as Subramaniam’s decision suggests he believes artists are “no match for AI.” Kashyap described the development as “a future for the spineless and cowardly so-called artists” in Hindi cinema, adding: “Shame is not enough on you. You should be in the gutter.”
Kashyap’s remarks follow filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane’s reaction to the same announcement. Sharing the film’s poster on Instagram, Motwane commented, “And so it begins… Who TF needs writers and directors when it’s ‘Made in AI.’”
Earlier on Tuesday, Abundantia Entertainment unveiled the official poster of Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal, calling it a “first-of-its-kind, Made-in-AI, Made-in-India avatar.” The film is slated for release on Hanuman Jayanti in 2026.
