JAMMU: Govt. College for Women (GCW), Parade Ground, Jammu, celebrated Sewa Parv today with enthusiasm, engaging students, faculty, and dignitaries in a series of meaningful activities.
The event was presided over by Shantmanu, Additional Chief Secretary (Higher Education), as the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, he lauded the college and NSS volunteers for their dedication to service, discipline, and civic responsibility. He emphasized that such initiatives instill social awareness among youth and reinforce the role of higher education institutions in community development.
Welcoming the gathering, Principal Dr. Ravender K. Tickoo highlighted the importance of Sewa Parv in promoting social service, environmental consciousness, and civic values among students. He appreciated the support of participating colleges and praised their efforts in channeling youthful energy toward nation-building.
The celebration commenced with service-oriented initiatives, including a cleanliness drive, plantation drive, donation drive, and a symbolic walkathon-exhibition led by NSS volunteers from various colleges, reflecting the true spirit of selfless service and community engagement.
Volunteers from GCOE, GDC Paloura, GDC Akhnoor, and GDC R.S. Pura actively contributed, donating essential items. NSS and NCC volunteers from GCW Parade also extended generous support to flood relief efforts.
The cultural segment added vibrancy to the program with a soulful performance on Gandhian philosophy by Music Department students, followed by a skit on Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan by MAM College students, and a Swachhta Abhiyan skit by NSS volunteers of GCW Parade. The event also included the felicitation of division-level winners of the Independence Day celebrations.
Principals from GCW Gandhi Nagar, GDC Paloura, GDC R.S. Pura, and Govt. SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu were also present on the occasion.
