Mumbai: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar on Friday shared a disturbing personal experience involving his 13-year-old daughter to highlight the rising threat of cybercrime among children.

The actor revealed that a few months ago, while his daughter was playing an online video game, she was approached by an unknown person who asked her to send personal pictures.

He recounted the incident during his address at the inaugural ceremony of Cyber Awareness Month 2025 held at the State Police Headquarters in Mumbai.

“I want to share a small incident from my home a few months ago. My daughter was playing a video game that allows you to interact with strangers online,” Akshay said. “During the game, she received a message asking if she was male or female. When she replied female, the person then asked her to send nude pictures. My daughter immediately switched off the game and informed my wife. This is how such crimes begin. This is a part of cybercrime too.”

Akshay urged the government to take proactive steps to protect children online. “I would request the Chief Minister to introduce a weekly ‘cyber period’ in schools for students of 7th to 10th grade, where children are educated about these risks. Cybercrime is growing faster than street crime, and it is crucial to prevent it,” he said.

The actor also emphasized the importance of including cyber safety education as a regular subject to help students stay safe in the rapidly evolving digital world.

Akshay was joined at the event by Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla, Iqbal Singh Chahal (IPS), and actress Rani Mukerji, among others.
