Jammu: Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday announced that a special relief package would soon be approved for over 5,000 rural houses in Jammu and Kashmir damaged by recent floods, landslides, and heavy rains.
Chouhan said each affected family will receive ₹1.3 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, along with a toilet and ₹40,000 worth of MGNREGA wages to help rebuild their homes. “The list of 5,101 damaged houses has reached me. After returning, I will approve them so that families can reconstruct their homes,” he assured.
On crop losses, the minister confirmed that nearly 7,000 insured farmers would get full compensation once the ongoing survey is completed. He said officials from his ministry were working with insurance companies to ensure fair settlement. “Any negligence or irregularity in compensating farmers will be an injustice, and we will not allow that,” he warned.
Chouhan further announced:
₹17,000 per hectare compensation for vegetable losses under NDRF.
₹37,000 per milch animal and ₹32,000 per horse or ox lost in floods.
₹76 crore financial aid for NGOs and rural women self-help groups.
Extension of MGNREGA workdays from 100 to 150, creating more job opportunities.
Immediate assistance through the PM Kisan Nidhi scheme directly into farmers’ accounts.
Bringing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message of solidarity, Chouhan reassured the people: “In every possible way, we will serve you. The pain I witnessed here will be conveyed to the prime minister, and complete support will be extended. Together, we will rise again.”
