New Delhi: India batter Shreyas Iyer, who suffered a blunt abdominal injury while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on October 25, has been discharged from a Sydney hospital and is currently stable, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Saturday.
The injury occurred when Iyer had an awkward fall while attempting a catch during Australia’s innings, resulting in a spleen laceration with internal bleeding. The issue was promptly identified, and the bleeding was controlled through a minor medical procedure.
“He is now stable and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his progress, and he has been discharged from the hospital today,” the BCCI said in an official statement.
The board expressed gratitude to Dr Kouroush Haghigi and his team in Sydney, as well as Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for their expert care. It added that Iyer would remain in Sydney for follow-up consultations and would return to India once declared fit to fly.
“The BCCI extends its heartfelt gratitude to the doctors involved for ensuring Shreyas received the best treatment. He will continue his recovery in Sydney until he is cleared for travel,” the statement added.
Earlier this week, Iyer took to social media to thank fans and well-wishers, saying:
“I’m currently in recovery and getting better every passing day. I’m deeply grateful for all the kind wishes and support I’ve received — it truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts.”
