Perth: As Team India gears up for the three-match ODI series against Australia, vice-captain Shreyas Iyer is on the verge of achieving two major career milestones — he needs just 155 runs to complete 3,000 ODI runs and 240 runs to reach 5,000 international runs.

So far, Iyer has played 70 ODIs, amassing 2,845 runs at an impressive average of 48.22, including 6 centuries and 22 half-centuries. His highest score remains an unbeaten 128*, with a strike rate of 100.00.

Across all formats, the right-hander has featured in 135 matches, scoring 4,760 runs at an average of 40.68. His tally includes 19 centuries and 35 fifties, with his best score again being 128* and a strike rate of 96.29.

Earlier this year, Iyer led Punjab Kings (PBKS) to their first IPL final in a decade, earning praise for his leadership and consistent performances. However, his omission from the Asia Cup 2025 squad drew widespread criticism from fans and former cricketers.

In the Champions Trophy 2025, Iyer emerged as India’s top scorer and the tournament’s second-highest run-getter, with 243 runs in five innings at an average of 48.60, including two half-centuries and a top score of 79, playing a key role in India’s back-to-back white-ball title wins.

He also enjoyed his best IPL season to date, finishing as the sixth-highest run-scorer with 604 runs in 17 innings, averaging 50.33 and striking at 175.07, with six fifties and a top score of 97*.

Since India’s T20 World Cup triumph, the Mumbai batter has featured in 26 T20Is, scoring 949 runs at an average of 49.94 and a strike rate of 179.73, including one century and seven fifties. His last T20I appearance came in late 2023, where he scored a half-century following the home World Cup.

India’s ODI squad vs Australia:
Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (VC), Axar Patel, KL Rahul (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel (WK), and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
