Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday launched a comprehensive inspection drive across SIM card vendor outlets in Kishtwar district to enhance security and curb illegal distribution, officials said.

According to a police spokesperson, all gazetted officers and station house officers inspected SIM vendor outlets in their respective jurisdictions as part of the coordinated, district-wide exercise.

During the drive, vendors were instructed to maintain complete records of all issued SIM cards, adhere strictly to Know Your Customer (KYC) norms, and avoid selling fake or pre-activated SIMs.

The inspection also stressed the need to keep detailed logs of recharges, duplicate SIM issuances, and reports of lost or damaged SIM cards, along with corresponding customer details, the spokesperson added.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Kishtwar, Naresh Singh, underscored the importance of transparency and integrity in the SIM issuance process to prevent potential misuse. He also urged mobile phone retailers and repair technicians to maintain accurate transaction and customer identification records to ensure accountability and public safety.

Police said similar inspections will continue to ensure vendor compliance and strengthen telecom-related security measures across the district.

A comparable drive was recently held in Udhampur, while Kathua district witnessed a two-day inspection of SIM vendor outlets earlier this week.

“The initiative is aimed at strengthening the verification process for new SIM registrations and preventing the misuse of mobile connectivity,” the spokesperson said.
