ISLAMABAD: At least six people were killed and one injured in an explosion on Thursday in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province, officials reported.

The blast took place at a taxi stand in Chaman district, near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The victims were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital, according to Rescue 1122.

“The injured is in critical condition,” Ghafoor Ur Rehman, head of the state-run Medical Emergency Response Centers (MERC) 1122 in Chaman, told Xinhua.

Security forces have sealed off the area as investigations continue. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the incident, expressing sorrow over the loss of lives. He directed authorities to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice and vowed that attempts to destabilize the province would not succeed.
