Srinagar, Nov 24: The Director of Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) highlighted that partial autonomy remains a key hurdle to the institution’s growth and development. Speaking at a recent event, the Director emphasized that increased decision-making powers are essential to foster innovation, expansion, and efficient administration.
Officials noted that the limitations in autonomy affect SKIMS’ ability to implement strategic plans, recruit faculty, and upgrade infrastructure in a timely manner. Full or enhanced autonomy is seen as critical for enabling the institution to achieve its objectives and maintain high standards in medical education, research, and healthcare delivery.
The Director called on relevant authorities to consider granting greater autonomy to SKIMS, which would support its mission to provide world-class healthcare services and advance medical research in the region.
