Jammu: The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) has begun repairing and renovating government schools in Reasi district that were damaged by recent rains and landslides, officials said.
The restoration drive, initiated on the directions of Board Chairman and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, will focus on classrooms, boundary walls, and sanitation facilities in the affected schools.
Schools in Katra and nearby areas—including Purana Daroor, Chumbra, Kakryal, Bratisala, Geeta Nagar, and Chanjute—have been identified for immediate intervention, they added.
In several places, students have been forced to study in temporary shelters or open spaces due to the damage. Shrine Board CEO Sachin Kumar Vaishya has instructed officials to assess losses and prioritize severely affected schools for timely restoration.
“The initiative must be executed with urgency so that children can continue their education without further disruption,” Vaishya said, adding that the work will be carried out in phases.
