Soldier Dies of Oxygen Deficiency in Ladakh, Laid to Rest with Military Honours in Gurugram

Gurugram: Indian Army soldier Pritam Khatana, who died during treatment in Chandigarh after falling ill due to oxygen deficiency while on duty in Ladakh, was cremated with full military honours at his native village Abhaypur in Gurugram district on Sunday.

His 13-year-old son, Pratik, lit the funeral pyre, officials said.

According to the district administration, Khatana’s health deteriorated on August 15 while on duty, following which he was shifted to the military hospital in Chandigarh. He passed away during treatment on Saturday.

The soldier’s body was brought to his residence on Sunday, where a large number of people, including Sohana SDM Akhilesh Yadav, paid their respects.

Khatana, who joined the Army Service Corps as a havildar in 2011 at the age of 19, came from a family with a strong military background. His father, Giriraj Khatana, also served in the Army.

He is survived by his wife, son Pratik, and daughter Panchhi.
