BHADERWAH/JAMMU: An Army jawan lost his life after his service rifle accidentally went off inside a camp in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on Monday at Sarna camp in Bhaderwah, where Sepoy Suresh Biswal was on guard duty. His colleagues rushed to his post after hearing a gunshot and found him lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately taken to a hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Bhaderwah Superintendent of Police Vinod Sharma said preliminary investigation indicates that the soldier, a resident of Odisha, died due to an accidental discharge while unloading the chamber of his rifle.
Inquest proceedings have been initiated to determine the exact cause of death.
