JAMMU: A soldier was killed by a gunshot from his service rifle outside a military hospital in Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday, officials said.
Police have launched an inquest to determine whether the death was accidental or a result of suicide, they added.
The soldier, who was a driver, was waiting in a parked medicine supply vehicle in the town when he was struck by the fatal shot.
Colleagues, alerted by the gunfire, found him bleeding and rushed him to the hospital, where he was declared dead, the official said.
