New Delhi: Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has written to Amneet P Kumar, wife of senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar who allegedly died by suicide, saying his tragic death underscores how the “prejudiced and biased” conduct of those in power continues to deny even the most senior officials social justice.

In her condolence letter, Gandhi expressed deep sorrow and solidarity, assuring Amneet P Kumar — a senior IAS officer serving as Commissioner and Secretary in the Haryana government — that she and “millions across the country” stand with her in her pursuit of justice.

“The news of the tragic death of your husband, senior IPS officer Mr. Y Puran Kumar, is both shocking and deeply saddening. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family in this time of immense difficulty,” Gandhi wrote.
“The passing of Mr. Kumar is a reminder that even today, the prejudiced and biased attitude of those in power deprives even the most senior officials of social justice,” she added. “May God grant you patience, courage, and strength in this difficult time.”

Kumar, 52, a 2001-batch IPS officer, was found dead at his residence in Chandigarh’s Sector 11 on Tuesday. He was serving as Inspector General at the Police Training Centre in Rohtak’s Sunaria.

Following his death, the Chandigarh Police formed a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. However, his family has withheld consent for the post-mortem, citing “incomplete information” in the FIR.

In an eight-page note recovered from the scene, Kumar reportedly accused eight senior IPS officers, including Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya, of sustained mental harassment and humiliation.
In response, the Haryana government transferred SP Bijarniya on Saturday.
