Sourav Ganguly was re-elected unopposed as President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) during its 94th Annual General Meeting on Monday.

CAB Electoral Officer Sushanta Ranjan Upadhyay also announced the appointment of Nitish Ranjan Dutta as Vice President, Bablu Koley as Honorary Secretary, Madan Mohan Ghosh as Joint Secretary, and Sanjay Das as Treasurer.

The Apex Council members named at the AGM include Koushik Mukherjee, Vivek Lohia, Shoumik Bose, Nav Ratan Jhawar, Nilanjana Bose, Surajit Lahiri, Ravi Todi, Joydeep Mukherjee, Soumendu Chatterjee, Asis Chakraborty, and Goutam Goswami.

Ganguly succeeds his brother, Snehasish Ganguly, who served as CAB President for nearly three years. With no other nominations filed, Sourav Ganguly was elected unopposed. He previously held the CAB President’s position from 2015 to 2019.

After his first tenure with CAB, Ganguly served as President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from 2019 to 2022. Earlier this year, he was reappointed as Chair of the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee, a role he first assumed in 2021.

Speaking to ANI, Ganguly said, “I have worked as a President for five years before this as well. We will do what is best. There is immense craze for cricket in India. There is a lot of talent. It will be our job to give direction to this talent.”

During his illustrious playing career, Ganguly appeared in 113 Test matches, scoring 7,212 runs at an average of 42.17, including 16 centuries and 35 half-centuries, with a highest score of 239, making him India’s seventh-highest run-scorer in Tests.

In 311 ODIs, he amassed 11,363 runs at an average of 41.02, including 22 centuries and 72 half-centuries, with a highest score of 183, ranking him third on India’s all-time ODI run-scorers list. Ganguly captained India in 147 ODIs, recording 76 wins, 66 losses, and five no-results, with a win percentage of 51.70.
