New Delhi: Government sources on Wednesday said the recent violence in Ladakh appears to be part of a conspiracy driven by political motives and personal ambitions, stressing that the youth should not be held responsible.
Sources claimed that Ladakh and its young population are paying a heavy price for the narrow political agendas of certain individuals and the personal ambitions of activist Sonam Wangchuk. They said the youth who participated in violent acts were misled and drawn into a calculated scheme for political and personal gain. The central government, they emphasized, remains committed to the welfare and empowerment of the people of Ladakh and stands firmly with its youth.
According to sources, statements made by some Congress leaders were perceived as encouraging actions such as stone-pelting, bandhs, and arson. “Why were they so ready? The entire episode reeks of a conspiracy fueled by politics and personal interests,” one source said. They added that the unrest in Ladakh did not occur spontaneously but was “deliberately orchestrated.”
Referring to the October 6 meeting of the High Powered Committee (HPC) with the ABL and KDA to address issues concerning the Union Territory, sources said the central government has approved the new members for the HPC as proposed by the ABL. There are also discussions about advancing this meeting to September 25–26.
Sources noted that the Centre has always been willing to engage in dialogue, pointing out that a meeting proposed on July 25 did not receive a positive response. They questioned the timing of the violence, asking whose interests it served.
“Sonam Wangchuk has long suggested the idea of an Arab Spring-style protest in Ladakh. His references to Gen Z protests in Nepal now appear to have served as a blueprint. Has he used this platform for personal agendas to conceal certain irregularities that are now coming to light?” the sources asked.
