BUDGAM: Speaker of the J&K Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, today inaugurated a one-day Mega Awareness Camp cum Seminar for artisans, weavers, and trainees at Nagam Chadoora. The event was organized by the Handicrafts & Handloom Department.
The camp saw active participation from artisans, weavers, trainees, and officials from various line departments. In his inaugural address, the Speaker lauded the artisans for preserving Kashmir’s rich cultural heritage and urged them to embrace innovation and market-oriented approaches while pursuing their craft with dedication and sincerity.
Emphasizing the importance of self-reliance, Rather encouraged artisans to aim to become job creators rather than job seekers. He also assured his full support for initiatives promoting the socio-economic development of artisan communities.
On the occasion, the Assistant Director of Handicrafts & Handloom, Budgam, highlighted the department’s achievements and initiatives to strengthen the handicrafts and handloom sector. He encouraged artisans to take full advantage of the welfare schemes and capacity-building programs offered by the department.
Speakers from various departments provided detailed insights into the schemes and opportunities available for artisans and trainees. The event was also attended by the Deputy Registrar of Cooperatives, Budgam, principals of Government Polytechnic College and Government Girls Higher Secondary School Chadoora, representatives from J&K Bank Nagam Chadoora, and other officials.
