Kolkata: A SpiceJet flight (SG670) from Mumbai to Kolkata made an emergency landing on Sunday night after one of its engines reportedly failed, airport officials said.
Officials confirmed that the aircraft landed safely and the full emergency was withdrawn at 11:38 pm.
Earlier on November 7, multiple airlines, including Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet, had issued advisories cautioning passengers about possible delays due to disruptions at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. A technical malfunction in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system had caused delays to over 100 flights, according to Delhi Airport authorities.
Passengers were advised to check flight updates before heading to the airport, while airlines assured that ground staff were assisting travellers to minimize inconvenience.
ATC services are responsible for managing aircraft movement both on the ground and in controlled airspace.
In a post on X, SpiceJet had earlier stated:
“Due to ATC congestion at Delhi, all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights might get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status via spicejet.com.”
This is not the first recent emergency involving the airline. On September 12, a SpiceJet Q400 aircraft flying from Kandla (Gujarat) to Mumbai made an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport after an outer wheel was found on the runway following takeoff.
The flight declared a full emergency as a precaution, but safely landed on Runway 27 at 3:51 pm. All passengers and crew were unharmed, and the aircraft taxied to the terminal under its own power.
A SpiceJet spokesperson said:
“The aircraft continued its journey to Mumbai and landed safely. Following a smooth landing, passengers disembarked normally.”
As per Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), the pilot had requested an emergency landing immediately after the issue was detected.
