Committee on Government Assurances Reviews PWD-Related Assurances

SRINAGAR: The Committee on Government Assurances of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly convened a meeting today at the Assembly Complex, Srinagar, to review assurances related to the Public Works Department (PWD).

The meeting was chaired by Committee Chairman Sajad Gani Lone and attended by members Ch. Mohammad Akram, Javaid Ahmad Mirchal, Hilal Akbar Lone, Iftikar Ahmad, Mian Mehar Ali, Mohan Lal, Sunil Bahardwaj, and Shagun Parihar. Senior PWD officials present included Principal Secretary Anil Kumar Singh, Special Secretary R&B Naseer Ahmad Wani, Director Finance Mazhar Hussain, Joint Director Planning Mohammad Yaseen Lone, and Deputy Director Finance Mohd Iqbal.

The Committee engaged in a detailed discussion on government assurances concerning various PWD works and projects. Chairman Lone directed the officers to promptly address grievances and issues raised by members. The officials acknowledged the concerns and assured the Committee that all pending assurances would be addressed at the earliest, with the Principal Secretary reiterating the Department’s commitment to prioritize all highlighted works.

In his opening remarks, Chairman Sajad Gani Lone stressed that the Committee’s key role is to scrutinize assurances, promises, and undertakings made by Ministers on the Assembly floor and monitor their timely implementation. He highlighted the Committee’s responsibility in ensuring government accountability, transparency, and improved governance, adding that regular meetings would be conducted to track progress and ensure fulfillment of every assurance.

Members also shared valuable suggestions and highlighted several issues of public importance for the Committee’s consideration.
