Srinagar experiences heavy rainfall; IMD predicts thunderstorms and gusty winds
Srinagar: Several areas of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, were lashed by heavy rainfall, leading to a noticeable drop in temperature.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that the city will witness “Heavy Rainfall, Light to Moderate Rainfall, Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, and gusty winds of 30-40 km/h” today.
Earlier, following IMD’s warnings, the Jammu and Kashmir government ordered the closure of schools in the Jammu division. According to the official circular, all government and private schools in Jammu will remain closed on October 6 and 7.
In the Rajouri region, intense rainfall has caused significant damage, with homes destroyed, roads submerged or sunken, and crops ruined. The rains also triggered multiple landslides, blocking several key routes in the district.
Meanwhile, North Bengal experienced heavy rainfall that led to landslides and severe waterlogging, causing widespread damage, road disruptions, and loss of life in districts including Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri. At least 18 people have been reported dead in Darjeeling due to continuous rain that battered the region from Saturday night into Sunday, officials confirmed on Monday.
