Srinagar: In a landmark judgement, the Court of Special Judge NDPS, Srinagar, on Tuesday sentenced two notorious drug traffickers to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh each in connection with a major narcotics case dating back to 2021.
The convicts—Mudasir Sultan Bhat alias Majid, son of Mohd. Sultan, a resident of Sir Syed Abad Sector-1 Bemina, Srinagar, and Feroz Ahmad Khan alias Jaja, son of Ab. Samad Khan, resident of Muslim Abad Nundareshi Colony, Bemina, Srinagar—were found guilty in FIR No. 19/2021 registered under Sections 8/22, 29 of the NDPS Act and Sections 420, 468, 471 IPC at Police Station Crime Branch Kashmir (ANTF Kashmir).
The case stemmed from the recovery of a large consignment of contraband pharmaceutical drugs in April 2021, including 7,500 bottles of Z-REX syrup and 9,600 Zancavit capsules. Following the seizure, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Kashmir launched a detailed investigation that culminated in a comprehensive 960-page charge sheet submitted before the Hon’ble Court on March 10, 2022.
The probe, conducted under the close supervision of SSP ANTF J&K, was evidence-based and meticulously executed, ensuring a watertight prosecution that led to the conviction of both accused.
Commending the investigating and prosecution teams, the ANTF J&K hailed the judgement as a major success in the fight against drug trafficking. The agency stated that the verdict sends out a powerful message to those involved in the illicit trade and reaffirms the J&K Police’s unwavering commitment to combating the drug menace and protecting the youth.
This conviction represents a significant milestone in J&K’s ongoing campaign against narcotics, reflecting the professionalism, dedication, and effectiveness of the ANTF in bringing offenders to justice.
