Srinagar Police Solve Theft, Arrest Suspect, Recover Gold Worth ₹12 Lakh
Srinagar: Police in central Kashmir’s Srinagar have solved a high-value theft case, recovering gold items worth ₹12 lakh and arresting the accused, identified as Waseem Ahmad Kaloo, son of Gh. Qadir Kaloo, a resident of Chattabal, officials said on Monday.
According to a police spokesperson, on September 21, 2025, Police Station Nowhatta received a written complaint from Mohammad Yousuf Rather, son of Ab. Gaffar Rather, of Wantpora, Rajouri Kadal. The complainant reported that unknown individuals had broken into his home during his absence, ransacked the premises, and stolen gold items valued in lakhs of rupees.
Police registered a case under FIR No. 51/2025, under sections 305 and 331 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and launched a detailed investigation. A Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Nowhatta, was formed to probe the incident. Using technical surveillance and human intelligence, several suspects were identified and interrogated.
The investigation revealed Waseem Ahmad Kaloo as the primary accused. Following his disclosure, police successfully recovered stolen gold items worth approximately ₹12 lakh.
“The accused has been arrested in connection with the case,” the spokesperson confirmed.
Further investigation is ongoing to determine whether other individuals were involved and to ensure full recovery of all stolen property.
