Srinagar: In response to severe flooding and widespread waterlogging across the city, Srinagar Police, in coordination with SDRF and River Police, has launched a comprehensive evacuation and relocation operation to ensure the safety of affected residents.
According to an official statement, police teams from local stations, supported by SDRF and River Police units, have been deployed under territorial officers’ supervision across the most vulnerable areas of the district.
So far, nearly 200 families and individuals have been safely evacuated and relocated. Specifically:
Peerzo Island & Basantbagh: 24 families and houseboat dwellers rescued.
Bonyarbal, S.R. Gunj, Malik Sahib, Safakdal, Pamposh Colony, Noorbagh, Guzarbal, Madanyar Fateh Kadal: 39 families relocated.
Dedi Kadal, Habba Kadal, Zaindar Mohalla, Tankipora, Karan Nagar, Kursoo, Iqbal Colony, Aramwari: 20 families and individuals evacuated.
Tailbal & Hazratbal areas: 20 families rescued.
Panzinara-Mujgund, Bund Side, Maloora Bund, Khawajabagh Bund, Parimpora Bund, Bilal Colony Bund, Qamarwari, Rampora Chattabal Bund, Zenpora, Tengan: 63 individuals relocated.
Beyond evacuations, Srinagar Police have proactively secured embankments to prevent further flooding. Contingency teams and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have been positioned across all police establishments to assist stranded citizens, manage traffic, and provide frontline rescue support.
Dedicated 24×7 helplines have been established, along with publicly available contact numbers of district officers, to assist residents during emergencies.
Srinagar Police urge citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, report incidents like waterlogging, fallen trees, or electrical hazards to the nearest Police Station or PCR, and cooperate with emergency services while following official advisories.
The police remain fully committed to public safety and will continue providing all possible assistance during these challenging times.
