Jammu: Authorities in Kathua convened a high-level meeting on Tuesday to review the security situation and reinforce the district’s border defence, with a particular focus on monitoring overground workers (OGWs) and sympathisers of terrorist organisations.

Chaired by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohita Sharma, the meeting underscored the need to strengthen the border grid, Village Defence Groups (VDGs), and the beat policing system. Officials also discussed the installation of CCTV cameras at key locations, including vital installations, checkpoints, and areas prone to narcotics activity, a spokesperson said.

In light of ongoing militancy concerns, the SSP directed intensified surveillance on OGWs and their associates. She also emphasised active beat patrolling and proper upkeep of beat book records to ensure accountability.

Station House Officers (SHOs) were instructed to maintain strict watch over OGWs, habitual offenders, and illegal residents within their jurisdictions, the spokesperson added.

Sharma further directed officers to take stringent action against narcotics trade, bovine smuggling, excise violations, and illegal mining.

The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to enhance vigilance, improve inter-agency coordination, and ensure the effective implementation of security measures to safeguard peace and public order in Kathua district.
