JAMMU: Commissioner of State Taxes, Jammu and Kashmir, P.K. Bhat, today chaired a comprehensive review meeting with State Tax Officers (STOs) of the Jammu Division, ahead of the second quarter of the financial year 2025-26.
Held at the Excise and Taxation Complex here, the meeting assessed departmental performance, addressed challenges, and deliberated strategies to enhance revenue collection and ensure tax compliance. Officers from all circles of the Jammu Division attended, with outer circle officers joining virtually. Additional Commissioner, State Taxes Administration & Enforcement, Jammu, Namrita Dogra, was also present.
During the session, Commissioner Bhat underscored the pivotal role of the State Taxes Department in strengthening financial discipline and achieving fiscal targets for 2025-26. He directed officers to aim for a significant revenue increase by adopting proactive measures and leveraging technology to combat tax evasion.
“Our goal is to ensure robust tax compliance while fostering a business-friendly environment. We must utilize every tool at our disposal to achieve these objectives,” he said.
Bhat emphasized the need to target dormant dealers, ensure timely filing of returns, and closely monitor Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) payments. He also instructed officers to intensify field inspections, particularly in cash-intensive sectors such as banquet halls, catering services, and retail, to enforce GST compliance.
The Commissioner highlighted the importance of scrutinizing E-Way Bills to prevent revenue leakage and urged officers to utilize GST Prime and the Business Intelligence Unit (BIU) for real-time data analysis, especially in high-risk sectors like cement, iron, and mobile industries, which are prone to tax violations.
Key discussions also focused on optimizing technological tools, including GST Prime, E-Way Bills, and BIU, to effectively identify and address tax defaulters. Additional Commissioner Namrita Dogra presented a detailed circle-wise performance review, pinpointing areas for improvement and proposing actionable strategies for the remaining quarters.
The meeting concluded with officers reaffirming their commitment to implement the Commissioner’s directives with diligence. The department reiterated its resolve to strengthen tax administration, boost revenue collection, and deter tax evasion through technology-driven enforcement and strategic oversight.
