New Delhi: Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki recorded year-on-year growth in their retail sales market share in September, as per the latest passenger vehicle registration data. In contrast, Hyundai Motor India and Toyota Kirloskar Motor witnessed a decline in their market share during the same period.
Tata Motors’ market share rose to 13.75% last month, up from 11.52% in September last year when it sold 32,586 units. Maruti Suzuki India led the market with retail sales of 1,23,242 units, securing a 41.17% share, compared to 1,15,530 units and a 40.83% share in September 2024.
Overall passenger vehicle retail sales increased 6% year-on-year, reaching 2,99,369 units in September, up from 2,82,945 units in the same month last year.
Mahindra & Mahindra sold 37,659 units, capturing a 12.58% market share, nearly stable compared to last year’s 12.67%. Hyundai Motor India’s sales dipped to 35,812 units, reducing its share to 11.96% from 13.72% last year.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s sales declined slightly to 20,303 units, lowering its market share to 6.78% from 7.35% a year ago. Kia India’s market share remained nearly flat at 6.78%, with 16,727 units sold compared to 16,062 units last year.
In the two-wheeler segment, Hero MotoCorp saw its market share rise to 25.10% from 22.48%, with sales increasing to 3,23,268 units from 2,71,820 a year earlier.
Meanwhile, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India saw its share fall to 25.05% from 27.7% last year. TVS Motor Company improved its market share to 19.11%, up from 18.36% in the same period.
Overall, two-wheeler retail sales rose 6.5% year-on-year to 12,87,735 units in September, compared with 12,08,996 units in September 2024.
