Washington: Keri Russell and Bradley Whitford return as the spotlight shines on the first trailer for Season 3 of The Diplomat.

According to Variety, Season 3 picks up after the intense events of the previous season. Ambassador Kate Wyler (Russell) had accused Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) of orchestrating a terrorist attack while admitting her own ambition for the VP role. The story takes an unexpected twist following the president’s death, raising suspicions that Kate’s husband, Hal (Rufus Sewell), may have played an inadvertent role.

The trailer reveals Kate confronting challenges she never anticipated, taking on new responsibilities, and navigating complex relationships. Key dynamics include her evolving friendship with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi) and a tense, uneasy connection with First Gentleman Todd Penn, played by Whitford.

Season 2 explored the fallout from a bomb explosion in central London, as Kate hunted down those within the British government responsible for the chaos. Blending political intrigue, deception, and personal drama, the series remains one of Netflix’s most compelling dramas.

The cast also features Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, Ato Essandoh, Celia Imrie, Michael McKean, Nana Mensah, and Miguel Sandoval.

Created by Debora Cahn, who continues as showrunner and executive producer, The Diplomat also lists Keri Russell, Janice Williams, Alex Graves, Peter Noah, and Eli Attie as executive producers.

Season 3 is set to premiere on Netflix on October 16.
