OpenAI Brings Record Mode to ChatGPT Plus Users on macOS
OpenAI is expanding access to its Record Mode feature, now making it available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers using macOS through the ChatGPT desktop app. Previously limited to Team, Enterprise, and Education plans, this feature is now reaching a broader audience—particularly MacBook and Mac users.
OpenAI confirmed the rollout via a post on X this week, stating, “Plus users, the mic is yours.”
What Is Record Mode and How Does It Work?
Record Mode allows users to capture audio, process it, and generate transcriptions directly within the Mac app. This makes it a useful tool for meetings, enabling ChatGPT to listen in, take notes, and summarize discussions—without others necessarily knowing AI is in the loop.
The feature is designed not for developers but for everyday professionals looking to streamline their workday. With the Plus subscription, users simply tap the Rec button in the app to activate recording.
OpenAI notes that audio is recorded locally on the Mac before being uploaded to its servers for processing. Once complete, users receive a private, summarized version of the meeting, which is also saved in their chat history for easy access later.
AI-Powered Productivity on the Rise
With AI tools becoming increasingly integrated into daily workflows, OpenAI is positioning ChatGPT as a practical assistant. Other companies are following suit: Google is offering its Gemini AI Pro free to students in India, and Perplexity’s Pro version is free for a year to Airtel mobile and Wi-Fi users.
ChatGPT may soon follow with similar bundled or tiered offers, further expanding its reach.
